An Overcast Beach Is Better Than No Beach

I can't get it through my head that just because we're having a hot, sunny day here, there's a chance the beach 20 minutes away can be foggy and 15 degrees cooler. Like it was yesterday. But it didn't matter, any day at the beach is a good day.

This shot pretty much summs up their personalities yesterday. Maxwell was full of mischief. Landrie could barely tolerate his antics. And Ella was completely focused on their sand creation.

He could not pass by their sand castle without touching it. He just couldn't.

Maxwell kills me when he's like this. He wasn't being mean spirited, he just wanted to play too. But not their quiet, organized game. He was temporarily distracted by writing his name and age in the sand. Then striking a killer pose.

A little beach run.

I wanted a picture with them so Amy snapped this while they stood still. For one...

two...

three seconds...

...and...they were done.

About That

After complaining about the hot weather, we spent yesterday in the waves at the beach. Then we came home and Mike grilled a yummy dinner while the kids played outside. I take back the whining. I like summer days and I love summer nights.

Windy, Cold, But Happy Beach Day

Every year I have the hardest time wrapping my head around the fact that our beach is just not that warm in the summertime. Today I left my house and it was 85 degrees. In the 25 minute drive from our doorstep to the sand, it dropped to 65. And it was windy.BURRR. But no matter what, I think the beach is good for the soul, so we played anyway. I put the camera down when they decided to shed their coverups and go all the way in. Which means, I went in too. Chilly but refreshing :)

Some Like It Hot

It's been in the high 70s and low 80s around here...so I've been all smiles. First stop, the beach.

Dig them a hole and they're happy for hours. (Literally, like 2 1/2 hours. Then they go from the happiest kids on earth to melt down).

Sandy hop scotch with friends.

Ending the day with some baseball and BBQ. (Is Max a walking Disney ad or what? The character paraphernalia kills me. But it's not about me is it).

Sleepy girl fell asleep in our bed.

Second day this week. Same spot. Because when it's this warm, and we can...why not? Days like this I pinch myself that the rest of the world is at work and I get to make these memories with our kids.

The warm weather is sticking around as we celebrate Maeg's boyfriend Zach's birthday this weekend. Enjoy whatever you're doing :)

My brother Spencer is heading to Costa Rica for a surf trip tomorrow...have the best time Spence! Be safe. Have fun.

Hello Sunshine

I can never chose one photo. Because each one I look at reminds me of each moment, and I want to relive it all over again. And then there's the videos. If I take the time now to make quick video, it's done and I'll have it forever. (This is me convincing myself that it's entirely worth the time to blog it all).

Yesterday was full of sunshine. I had a house to clean and stuff to do, but I chose the beach instead and said a prayer of thanks that I get to stay at home with my kids. We met my brother David and had the best morning. As shown in the many photos and video :)

Interrupting Winter...

...For a day of sun at the beach. I'll take it any day! My whole body breathed in the salty air and warm sunshine. Gray days can be cozy, but I'm such summer girl. I loved the tease today. And the good company.

Summer In October

I'm sure someone, somewhere is bundled up in scarfs and boots. But not here. It was 80+ so we met our friends at the beach. It was beautiful. We'll keep playing summer as long as the sun here.

I Love My Friend/Ella's First Big Hurt

I thought we were going to love this hotel...and we did. The rooms were so-so, but with the incredible sun deck, we were barely in there. We spent the afternoon talking on the deck, then the rest of the night at the local farmer's market. I may have ended up playing percussion on a few songs for a 60's cover band. Who knew I was skilled in the art of maraca shaking?

I LOVE you Crystal! Thank you for being amazing friend. Happy 30th!

{side note: yesterday Ella had her first big hurt. we were playing at our neighbors and she hit the side of her eye on the bed frame. it's a minor thing, but sad for me! she didn't even complain much, i just get sad that she will have her first scar. i was totally calm, and i usually am in situations like that, but on the inside i was a mess. and really- this cut is little. i just don't like my babies hurt!}
